Orono, Maine -- For the second time in her career, University of Maine standout
Cassandra Mascarenhas has been named a National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) All-American honoree. Mascarenhas, who was named to the NFHCA All-American Second Team, joins Kelly Newton (2010, 2011) and Annabelle Hamilton (2013, 2014) as the only Black Bears in the history of the program to earn All-American status twice in their careers.
Mascarenhas, just the fourth Black Bear in program history to earn NFHCA All-American Second Team status, adds the All-American honor to what has been an impressive off-season of awards for the midfielder. Earlier, Mascarenhas was named to the NFHCA All Northeast Region First Team after previously being selected as one of 38 members of the 2021 National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) 2021 Division I Senior Team. Following her decorated final season in Orono, which saw Mascarenhas help guide Maine to its first America East championship and a berth in the NCAA Tournament, she was named the America East Midfielder of the Year while also earning First Team All-Conference and All-Academic honors by the league. With the honor, Mascarenhas became just the second America East player in history to win earn both Midfield of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year honors in a single career.
Mascarenhas was just one of 48 student-athletes nationwide to earn All-American status for the 2021 season.
