PORTLAND, Maine -- The University of Maine men's ice hockey team was defeated by the #15 UMass Lowell River Hawks, 2-0, on Saturday evening in the Cross Insurance Arena.
First Goal (1-0 #15 UMass Lowell): In the final five minutes of the first period, the River Hawks scored their first goal of the evening. The top line played tic-tac-toe until the puck found its way to Blake Wells' stick. The top line forward did not squander his opportunity and gave his squad a first period lead.
Second Goal (2-0 #15 UMass Lowell): The final goal of the evening was thanks to Ryan Brushett. The River Hawks forward forced a turnover deep in the Maine zone. With no one in front, Brushett doubled UMass Lowell's lead. It was the final goal of the Hockey East contest as Maine fell 2-0 to the River Hawks.\
Notes: Victor Ostman stopped 24 shots for the Black Bears, while Owen Savory tallied 29 saves for UMass Lowell.
Maine went 0 for 4 on their power play opportunities, as the River Hawks were 0-2 on its player advantages.
The Black Bears blocked 12 shots and won 28 face-offs as a team.
Next: Maine returns to the ice next Friday, December 3 in the Alfond. Puck drop against Vermont is scheduled for 7:00 pm.
