Orono, Maine -- All 12 Black Bears who appeared in the game scored as the University of Maine earned a 75-43 victory over UMaine Fort Kent on Friday evening at The Pit inside Memorial Gymnasium.
Vukasin Masic led a balanced scoring attack for Maine with a game-high 13 points to go along with four assists and three steals.
Chris Efretuei chipped in nine points off the bench while
Ata Turgut,
Maks Klanjscek and
Peter Filipovity each added seven points.
The Black Bears, who outscored Fort Kent 47-26 in the second half, dominated inside with a 42-16 advantage in points in the paint and a 36-23 edge in the rebounding column. Maine's defense forced 24 turnovers while limiting the Bengals to 13-of-42 (31.0) from the floor.
Maine turned in a 28-for-56 effort from the floor, including a 58.6 percent mark in the second half, and held a 19-2 edge in scoring off the fast break.
The Black Bears, who did not trail in the game after the 15:37 mark of the first half, pushed its advantage to double-digits late in the first half. Maine, leading by five, was able to piece together a 10-0 run as back-to-back buckets from Efretuei came before a triple off a Efretuei offensive board from
LeChaun DuHart. The three gave Maine its largest lead of the first half, 28-13.
The Bengals cut the lead to nine early in the second half but Maine had the answer. A three from Masic began a 13-2 Maine run as the Black Bears swelled their lead to 20, 47-27, with 12:22 to play.
The lead would not dip below 20 the rest of the way as Maine closed out the contest on a 10-0 run, securing a 75-43 victory.
