Bangor, Maine -- The University of Maine women's basketball team suffered an 83-60 setback to Delaware on Monday evening. Maine, playing its first game at the Cross Insurance Center in 620 days, was led by
Maeve Carroll's season-high 18 points to go along with eight rebounds and four assists.
Anne Simon registered double-figures for the third consecutive game with 13 points on 6-of-14 shooting while
Alba Orois packed the stat sheet with nine points and career-highs of eight rebounds and nine assists.
Delaware was led by Jasmine Dickey's 32 point, eight rebound effort.
The Black Bears, who finished 24-of-60 while hitting 9-of-10 from the free throw line, assisted on 15 of their 24 buckets while forcing 11 turnovers.
Delaware jumped out to an early five point lead before five-straight points from Orois tied the game midway through the first.
The Blue Hens responded with a 9-0 run but Maine once again answered. The Black Bears pieced together a 7-0 run of its own as
Bailey Wilborn knocked down a triple off the fastbreak to cut the deficit to a pair.
Delaware was able to extend its lead out to 10 in the second but Maine once again rallied. Carroll cashed in a bucket in the paint while drawing the foul and completing the traditional three-point play. Another bucket from Carroll off a turnover came before Orois' jumper as Maine's 7-0 run brought it within three.
The Blue Hens regained a double-digit lead, 46-34, with 6:44 left in the third before taking a 55-46 edge into the fourth.
A 21-6 run from the visitors pushed the advantage to 24, 76-52, with 4:28 left in regulation.
Maine was unable to trim the advantage under 21 the rest of the way before ultimately falling in the non-conference showdown, 83-60.
Maine returns to action on Friday when it travels to take on Yale at 6 p.m. in the first of four-straight road contests.
