Fogarty Sets Three-Point Record in Victory at New Hampshire

Fogarty breaks her own school-record with 10 made three-point field goals

Orono, Maine -- Kelly Fogarty set a new University of Maine women's basketball school record with 10 made three-point field goals to help guide the Black Bears to a 76-56 victory on the road at New Hampshire on Sunday afternoon.

Fogarty, who finished 10-of-17 from 3-point range for 30 points, broke her own school-record after pouring in nine triples in a contest against Husson on Dec. 4, 2019. Her 30 points, just one shy of her career-high, marked the fourth time this season in which a Black Bear has registered 30 or more points.

Maine, which assisted on 22 of its 28 made field goals, were also aided on offense by Blanca Millan's 14 points while Anne Simon added nine points. In the contest, Millan surpassed Emily Ellis to move into sixth on Maine's all-time career scoring list at 1,709 points.

After struggling from the field in the series opener at New Hampshire, Maine rebounded to produce a 28-for-55 (50.9) mark from the floor.

The Black Bears distanced themselves early, putting together a 20-3 run spanning through the final four minutes of the first and into the midway point of the second quarter. Leading by 10 after the first quarter, Maine opened the second with a 10-2 run. A triple by Fogarty put Maine up by 15. Three minutes later, another trey by Fogarty gave Maine its largest lead of the half, 30-12, with 5:38 to play in the first half.

New Hampshire chipped the advantage down to 11 but Maine would respond strong to end the second quarter. The Black Bears pieced together a 9-2 run in the closing 2:28 of the half to carry a 41-23 advantage to the break.

Maine's offense continued to roll in the third. On top by 20, the Black Bears staged a 7-0 run, swelling the lead to 27. Fogarty began the sprint with another triple before back-to-back buckets from Simon gave Maine its largest lead of the game, 62-35, with 2:13 left in the third.

The Wildcats were only able to get within 17 the rest of the way. A 10-0 New Hampshire run was halted by back-to-back treys by Fogarty. The senior shooter remained on fire as Saar swung a pass outside to Fogarty who knocked down her record-setting 10th triple of the contest with 2:49 left in the game.

Maine would cruise the rest of the way, locking down the 76-56 victory to improve to 6-1 overall and 3-1 in America East play.

The Black Bears continue league action when they welcome the New Jersey Institute of Technology to Orono on Jan. 9 and 10 in what will be Maine's first home games since March 8, 2020.
