Orono, Maine -- For the fourth-time this season, and the 12th time in her career,
Blanca Millan has been named the America East Player of the Week, as announced by the league on Tuesday, Jan. 19. The accolade marks the second consecutive week in which Millan has earned the honor.
The honor ties Millan with Rachel Bouchard for second most league player of the week honors in a career. Cindy Blodgett captured the award 17 times during her career.
The fifth-year guard led Maine to a sweep at UAlbany while averaging 21.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 2.0 steals while shooting 52 percent from the floor and 44 percent from three-point range. Millan, who became just the fourth Black Bear in the history of the Maine women's basketball program to record 200 career three-pointers, opened the series at UAlbany with a 16 point, five rebound effort. Millan led all scorers in Sunday's victory, tallying 27 points with six rebounds and three steals.
Millan currently ranks sixth on Maine's all-time scoring list, just seven points shy of tying Heather Ernest for fifth at 1,804 career points. Millan leads the America East in seven statistical categories while ranking 16th in the nation in scoring at 22.7 points per game.
The Black Bears continue America East play this weekend when they travel to take on Binghamton on Jan. 23 and 24 with tip-off scheduled for 2 p.m. on both days.
