Orono, Maine -- For the third time this season, and the 11th time of her career, University of Maine guard
Blanca Millan has been named the America East Player of the Week, as announced by the league on Monday, Jan. 11. The honor moves Millan into a tie with Jamie Cassidy for second, trailing only Cindy Blodgett, for most career Player of the Week honors won while at UMaine.
In a two-game sweep of the New Jersey Institute of Technology, Millan averaged 22.5 points, 9.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 3.5 steals while shooting 51.5 percent from the floor. Millan opened the series with her fourth double-double of the season after registering 24 points and 12 rebounds to go along with five assists and four steals. The fifth-year guard followed up the performance with a game-high 21 points and seven boards as Maine moved to 8-1 on the season, 5-1 in America East play.
Millan, who moved into 20th on the America East all-time scoring list following her weekend performance, ranks first in the America East in seven statistical categories, checking in 14th in the nation at 23.0 points per game. Millan currently stands just 50 points shy of moving ahead of Heather Ernest and into fifth on Maine's all-time scoring list.
