ORONO - Head Coach
Richard Barron and the Maine men's basketball program announced five new additions to their recruit class this week, adding Wol Maiwen, Fofo Adetogun, LeChaun DuHart, Matias Prock, and Matty Fleming to a class that already includes Leyton Bickford and Randell Wiel.
Â
Wol Maiwen is a 6'4, 185-pound product of Edward Little High School hailing from Auburn, Maine. He led Edward Little to the 2018 Class AA state title and spent the last season at the Williston Northampton preparatory school in Easthampton, Massachusetts.
Coach Barron on Wol:
"Wol is a terrific athlete and has great upside. He was well-coached and played at a high level at Edward Little and Coach Mike Adams. Over the past season, he has improved his perimeter skill set with the post-graduate year at North Hampton Prep for Coach Ben Farmer. Wol has the ability to attack the basket, crash the boards, and defend multiple positions. He has a high ceiling and I look forward to a bright future for him."
Wol on his decision:
"I'm excited to be a part of something special at UMaine. We're going to make history within the next couple of years, and it's an honor to be able to play for my home state with such great support."
Â
Adefolalrin "Fofo" Adetogun (6'1, 195-pounds) comes to Maine from Regina, Saskatchewan. A highly touted prospect out of Athol Murray College of Notre Dame High School, Adegtogun was a National Preparatory Association (NPA) All-Canadian First and Second Team selection in his high school career.
Coach Barron on Fofo:
"Fofo nearly came to Maine a year ago after a prep year at Edge School for Athletes playing for Adam Huffman, who also coached him at Notre Dame Prep. As one of the top players in Canada's NPA, we were disappointed a year ago only to have it all work out in the end. Fo is a great athlete and very strong and physical at the lead guard spot. In addition to his skillset and athleticism, Fo brings natural leadership qualities and an effervescent personality that will make him a fan favorite."
Fofo on his decision:
"I want to thank Coach Barron and the rest of the coaching staff for welcoming me with open arms. I also want to thank my coach and mentor Adam Huffman and Elias Sbiet for their guidance. I'm really excited to come in and get to work and start building the Maine program!"
LeChaun DuHart comes to Maine from Western Wyoming as a 5'11, 175-pound guard. Originally from Aurora, Colorado, DuHart graduated from Grandview High School.
Barron on LeChaun:
"LeChaun comes to us after a tremendous run to the Regional Championship with Coach Steve Soza at Western Wyoming. Unfortunately, their team's run in the NJCAA National Tournament was cut short due to the COVID19 shutdown, but LeChaun was definitely playing the best basketball of his career at the time. He is a winner and has a terrific attitude and willingness to do whatever helps the team. LeChaun has great handles, a tremendous pull-up jumpshot and is tenacious on the defensive end. His experience will help him make an immediate impact on our team."
LeChaun on his decision:
"I'm excited to announce my decision to join the Maine Black Bears. It's always been a dream of mine to play at the Division I level. It's been no easy journey by any means, and I have all the thanks to give to my former coaches, from before high school all the way through college. Each and every one of them helped to push me along in different ways and I love and appreciate every single one of them. I'd also like to thank the staff at Western Wyoming and my parents for believing in me and pushing me."
Matias Prock is a 6'2, 185-pound product of McLean, Virginia and McLean High School. He most recently played a year at Fork Union Prep.Â
Coach Barron on Matias:
"We are excited to have Matias join our team. Matias is a big, strong lead guard with a very high basketball IQ. We were impressed with how he ran the team for Major Matt Donahue at Fork Union against some of the top prep school teams in the nation. Matias is very smart and hardworking - an excellent fit for our program."
Matias on his decision:
"I want to thank my teammates, coaches, friends, and family who helped me make this possible. I'm excited to get to work at Maine."
Â
Matty Fleming joins the Black Bears after leading Bangor High School to a Class AA State Title in 2019 and spent the past year at the United States Military Academy Preparatory School.Â
Coach Barron on Matty:
"We are very excited to have Matt join us. Matt is one of the top players to come out of Maine in the past couple of years having led Bangor High to a state championship for Coach Brad Libby. In addition, he has the added experience of playing for Nick Thorsen at West Point Prep. Obviously, we had great success with his brother, Andrew, so our fans already feel like they know Matt. Matt is a versatile forward who is still growing and getting stronger. His outside shooting and team-first attitude will be great assets to our program."
Matty on his decision:
"I'm very thankful for the opportunity West Point gave me, but I couldn't be happier with my decision. It feels good to be home!"
Â
Along with Randell Wiel (Release here) and Leyton Bickford (Release here), Coach Barron and his coaching staff continue to make tangible improvements to the Maine basketball program, after leading the program to their most overall wins and most America East victories since the 2012-13 season this past season.Â
"Along with Randell and Leyton, we are very excited about this class and what they bring to our program," Coach Barron stated. "I am very excited about where they will help us go over the next couple of years. They are all committed students, hard workers, and fit what we are looking for in our program."Â
