SPARTANBURG, S.C. -- The University of Maine softball team dropped both games of today's doubleheader. Tennessee Tech won the first game of the morning 3-1, while USC Upstate took game number two, 6-0.
 
Game One -- Maine: 1 Tennessee Tech: 3
 
Tennessee Tech scored an unearned in the bottom of the first inning. Nicolle Nysted singled home Haeli Bryson, who stood on third base after the error.
 
An RBI single by Jessie Lowery in the bottom of the second inning extended the Eagles' lead to two. KaDedra Temple crossed home on the base knock.
 
Grace McGouldrick continued her hot start of the 2020 season with an RBI double in the top of the third inning. The sophomore infielder drove home Izzy Nieblas on the play.
 
Raleigh Lewis grabbed that run back with a solo home run in the bottom of the fifth. The shot managed to clear the left field wall. After five complete, the Eagles led 3-1.
 
Notes:

• Grace McGouldrick, Hailey Perry, Keely Clark, Izzy Nieblas, and Mariah Pearson all recorded hits in the first game of the doubleheader. McGouldrick recorded the RBI by driving home Nieblas.
• Caitlyn Fallon (0-1) made her collegiate debut for the Black Bears. The freshman went 3.0 innings, struck out one, allowed four hits, and allowed one earned run. Kyleigh O'Donnell went the rest of the way and allowed one run, one hit, and struck out three.

Game Two -- Maine: 0 USC-Upstate: 6
 
USC Upstate wasted no time grabbing the first lead of the ball game. Savannah Grisby, the second batter up for the home squad, lined an RBI single, while Peyton Darnell recorded an RBI double. Max Barnes added one more with a single down the line. She was also responsible for allowing Alicia Dorgan to score. At the end of the first inning, the Spartans had a 4-0 lead.
 
In the bottom of the fifth inning, Dorgan drove home an RBI of her own. Dorgan would then come around to score on a wild pitch.
 
Maine was unable to mount a comeback as they dropped their second game of the day.
 
Notes:

• Amanda Nee and Keely Clark recorded a single, and Shanna Scribner reached base on a walk.
• Gabbie Siciliano (0-1) went 4.0 innings for the Black Bears. The sophomore struck out one, allowed six hits, and allowed four earned runs. Emily Reid went the rest of the way and allowed one run and struck out two.
