Durham, N.H. - The University of Maine men's ice hockey team was defeated by the University of New Hampshire Wildcats, 6-2, on Saturday evening in the Whittemore Center.

First Goal (1-0 Maine): Jacob Schmidt-Svejstrup scored the first goal of the Hockey East Saturday night match-up. The junior forward fired the puck from the blue line on the Black Bears first power play opportunity of the evening.
Lynden Breen and
Jakub Sirota were both awarded assists on the Maine goal.

Second Goal (1-1): Angus Crookshank tied the game at the 10:42 mark of the first period. The Wildcats goal came on the power play. With a crowd in front of
Matthew Thiessen, Crookshank was able to find the back of the net. The forwards goal was unassisted.

Third Goal (2-1 UNH): Benton Maas gave his squad a late lead in the first period. With an extra attacker due to a delayed penalty, Maas tallied an unassisted goal for the Wildcats.

Fourth Goal (3-1 UNH): 00:39 later, Patrick Gasso scored a third straight goal for the home team. Charlie Kelleher did the hard work and left the puck for his linemate. 16:41 into the contest, and the Wildcats held a 3-1 lead.

Fifth Goal (3-2 UNH): Emil Westerlund scored the Black Bears' second goal of the evening. This tally also came on the power play.
Jacob Schmidt-Svejstrup found his teammate in front of the Wildcats' net. The senior forward did the rest and made the game a single goal competition.

Sixth Goal (4-2 UNH): Crookshank scored his second of the night 3:24 into the third period. Left alone on the breakaway, the forward gave his squad a late two goal lead.

Seventh Goal (5-2 UNH): Cam Gendron, forcing a turnover deep in the Maine zone, netted his first career goal with 8:07 left in the Hockey East contest. After stealing the puck, he went upper 90 to score his goal.

Eighth Goal (6-2 UNH): Joe Hankinson added an empty net goal in the final minutes of regulation.

Notes: Matthew Thiessen finished with 27 saves, while Mike Robinson tallied 32 for New Hampshire.

Maine went 2-6 on the power play, as the Wildcats were 2-4 on their player advantages.

The Black Bears blocked three shots as a team.
