Durham, N.H. - The University of Maine men's ice hockey team defeated the University of New Hampshire Wildcats in a shootout, 3-2, after battling to a 1-1 tie in regulation and the overtime period on Friday afternoon in the Whittemore Center.

First Goal (1-0 UNH): The Wildcats scored the first goal of the game on the breakaway. With 7:18 remaining in the Hockey East contest, Kalle Eriksson beat
Matthew Thiessen to give his squad a short lived one goal advantage.

Second Goal (1-1): Lynden Breen, in his first career game, scored his first career goal to tie the Friday night battle at one goal apiece.
Adam Dawe did the hard part and found Breen wide open in front of the UNH net. The freshman buried the puck and celebrated his first career lamp lighting.

After battling to a 1-1 tie through the overtime period, Breen,
Donavan Villeneuve-Houle, and
Simon Butala scored shootout goals to lead the Black Bears to their first shootout win of the season. The game goes down as a tie for Maine, but they earn two points in the Hockey East standings.

Notes: Matthew Thiessen finished with 37 saves, while Mike Robinson tallied 15 for New Hampshire.

Maine went 0-3 on the power play, as the Wildcats were 0-7 on their player advantages.

The Black Bears blocked 10 shots as a team.
