Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Maine drops a tight one to Vermont

BANGOR, Maine - The University of Maine men's basketball took reigning America East conference champion Vermont down to the wire on Wednesday evening, but Andrew Fleming's fall-away three-point attempt at the buzzer sailed just wide to allow the Catamounts to escape with the 59-57 victory.

Maine carried the lead for the first 15:37 of this one, jumping out on a 6-2 run to begin this one, and held it until Vermont regained the advantage with :47 seconds left in the half. The two teams traded runs throughout the remainder, as the momentum swung back and forth until Maine tied the game with:26 seconds left on a pair of Solomon Iluyomade free throws. Ben Shungu isolated his man at the top of the key and hit a driving layup to give Vermont the lead with just :04 showing on the clock, and the Fleming buzzer-beating attempt sailed wide to allow UVM to exit the Cross Insurance Center with their 18 straight victory over Maine.
