Three Second Half Goals Lead Women's Soccer to 3-1 Victory Over Merrimack

ORONO, Maine -- Three second half goals from Kayla Brace, Gaby Panagakos, and Julia Mahoney led the Black Bears (3-1-0, 0-0-0 AE) from behind in their Saturday evening non-conference victory over Merrimack (1-3-0, 0-0-0).

First Goal (Merrimack 1-0): The visiting Warriors took an early 1-0 lead. Staying true to their strategy, Merrimack launched the ball forward to three streaking forwards. Taylor Robertson found some space and gave her squad the first goal of the game.

Second Goal (1-1): On an odd player rush, Hannah Bamford (Rochester, New Hampshire) found an open Kayla Brace (Lewis Lake, Nova Scotia). The senior settled, turned, and fired a shot into the back of the Merrimack net. The non-conference match-up was tied at one goal apiece with 32 minutes left.

Third Goal (Maine 2-1): Gaby Panagakos (Scarborough, Maine) used her head and leg to score the second Black Bear goal of the game. Nicole Bailey set up the goal scoring play with a ball that crossed the majority of the field. With the Warrior defense on their heels, Panagakos tallied a well executed goal.

Fourth Goal (Maine 3-1): Julia Mahoney (St.-Augustin-De-Desmaures, Quebec) scored her first goal of the year with 19 minutes left in the non-conference contest. Olivia Bamford (Rochester, New Hampshire) did all of the work for her teammate. Mahoney received the through ball directly on her left foot as she turned and scored the third goal of the ball game.

The 3-1 advantage stood for the final 19 minutes as Maine would grab their third victory of the 2019 season.

Shots/Keepers:
Maine held a 12-to-6 in shots, while also winning corner kick battle, 7-3.

Keeper Annalena Kriebisch (Potsdam, Germany) made fives saves in goal, as her Warrior counterparts, Megan Langlois and Erin Fulton, tallied three.
