POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- The University of Maine women's soccer team (4-1, 0-0 AE) defeated the Marist College Red Foxes (3-3, 0-0 NEC), 2-1, on Thursday night in upstate New York.

First Goal (Marist 1-0): The Red Foxes struck first. Only 12 minutes into the non-conference matchup, the home squad grabbed a 1-0 lead. Kristen Prevosto headed the Alexa Svensson corner kick into the UMaine net. Although the Black Bears were loaded into the box, Marist managed to score the first goal of the game.

Second Goal (1-1): Nicole Bailey (Nepean, Ontario) and
Saylor Clark (Bedford, N.H.) teamed up to score Maine's first goal of the contest. Clark played the ball to Bailey. The senior took a few touches and launched a shot from outside the 18-yard marker. Marist's goalkeeper made an attempt but was unable to save the game tying goal. With 25 minutes left in the first half, the Black Bears and Red Foxes were tied at one goal apiece.

Third Goal (Maine 2-1): With 23 minutes left in the ball game,
Emilie Andersen (Oppegaard, Norway) fired a shot from just outside the 18-yard box. The Norway native's shot floated over the Marist's goaltender outstretched arm and into the Red Foxes' goal. The Black Bear grabbed a late lead in the road competition.Â

The 2-1 advantage would stand for the Black Bears as they advanced to 4-1 on the 2019 season.

Shots/Keepers: Maine held a 4-to-2 advantage in shots on goal, while Marist won the corner kick battle, 11-0.Â

Annalena Kriebisch (Potsdam, Germany) made one save in goal, as her Red Fox counterpart, Abigail Renaud, made two.
