Women's Soccer Wins Second in a Row with 2-0 Victory over Saint Peter's

JERSEY CITY, New Jersey – The University of Maine women's soccer team defeated Saint Peter's University, 2-0, on Wednesday afternoon. The Black Bears move to 2-1 on the young season.

First Goal (Maine 1-0): With Emilie Andersen (Oppegaard, Norway) taking a corner kick, Susannah Gaines (Lexington, Massachusetts) made her way into the box. The sophomore was left unmarked as Andersen sent the ball towards the goal. Gaines headed the ball into the back of the net for her first goal of the season. Maine held a 1-0 lead 20 minutes into the non-conference matchup.

Kira Kutzinski (Bunde, Germany), making her second start of the season, finished the first half with two saves. The Black Bears' lead held until the half. During the 15-minute halftime break, lightning flashed. Due to NCAA rules and regulations after a lightning flash, the game was suspended for 30 minutes.

Second Goal (Maine 2-0): Maine extended their lead to two goals in less than 10 minutes into the second half. Kayla Brace (Lewis Lake, Nova Scotia) carried the ball up the field. Drawing defenders away from her teammates, Brace found an open Hannah Bamford (Rochester, New Hampshire). Bamford took one touch and beat the Saint Peter's goaltender.

The 2-0 advantage stood for the rest of the game as the Black Bears grabbed their second win of the 2019 campaign.

Shots/Keepers:
Maine held a 5-to-2 in shots on goal, while also winning corner kick battle, 6-5.

Keeper Kutzinski made two saves in goal, as her Peacock counterpart, Haley Martin, tallied three.
