BURLINGTON, Vt. – The University of Maine women's soccer team tied the University of Vermont, 1-1, on Sunday afternoon on Virtue Field.
First Goal (Maine 1-0): 12 seconds before the half,
Julia Mahoney put the Black Bears on the board. The goal was set-up by senior
Kayla Brace. Mahoney managed to corral a bouncing ball in the Catamounts' 18-yard box. The goal was the lone tally of the first 45 minutes.
Second Goal (1-1): Ella Bankert scored an unassisted goal to tie the game at one early in the second half. The goal came from outside of the 18-yard box. Catching the Maine defense off guard, Vermont tied the conference match-up only five minutes in the second half.
Despite the efforts of each squad in the two overtime periods, the game ended in a 1-1 tie.
Nicole Bailey had the Black Bears' best chance when the senior started a breakaway. Unable to get on top of her shot, Bailey fired the shot over the crossbar.
Shots/Keepers: Vermont held a 11-to-9 in shots on goal, while Maine won corner kick battle, 9-2.

Kira Kutzinski made 10 saves in goal, as her Catamount counterpart, Kacey Lambertson, tallied nine.
Next: The Black Bears will return to Orono, Maine for a conference match-up with UMass-Lowell. Thursday's game is scheduled for 6:00 PM.
