ORONO, Maine - The snake bitten Black Bears offense continued to struggle on Saturday afternoon, as Maine dropped a 2-1 decision to Merrimack despite outshooting the Warriors by a 32-6 tally.
Brianna Ricker got the Black Bears up early with her sixth goal of the season merely seven minutes into the game. Unfortunately, that was the only time Merrimack goalkeeper Katharina Ohmen would be beat on the day, as the senior made 14 saves in 60:00 sparkling minutes in goal to lead the Warriors to the program's first ever Division I victory.
MAINE GAME NOTES
- Maine's 32-6 shot and 16-5 on goal advantage was only outpaced by a 15-3 penalty corner advantage. The Black Bears also had a penalty stroke opportunity squandered in the third quarter after being awarded four straight corner opportunities with no time left on the clock.
- Ricker's goal gives her the fifth-most points in the America East Conference with 13 so far.
- Mia Borley was solid in net, making three saves on the day.
- Junior Brooke Sulinski assisted on the Ricker goal for her first helper of the season, giving her five total points on the season for the second-most on the team.
