Softball Splits Doubleheader with Stony Brook on Senior Day

ORONO, Maine -
The University of Maine softball team split their final doubleheader of the 2019 season with the Stony Brook Seawolves. The Black Bears took game one, 7-3, while Stony Brook won game two, 5-0.

Game one -- Maine: 7 Stony Brook: 3
 
Stony Brook struck for the first run of the ballgame in the top of the first inning. A walk followed by a double equaled a 1-0 lead for the Seawolves.
 
Alyssa Derrick tied the game in the bottom of the first with an RBI single up the middle. Kya Enos came around the score on the base knock. After one complete, the Saturday morning game was tied 1-1.
 
Katelyn Corr lined Stony Brook's  hird home run of the weekend. This time the round tripper came in the top of the third. Her squad was now up 3-1 after the top of the third.
 
Derrick and Kelby Drews took turns hitting home runs over the left field fence. Drews' gave Maine a 4-3 lead after Alyssa Derrick tied the game with a two run shot.
 
Maddie Decker added some insurance in the bottom of the sixth inning with a deep solo home run to dead center. Kyleigh O'Donnell closed the door on the Stony Brook rally in the top of the 7th inning to give the Black Bears a 7-3 win in the first game of the day.
 
Notes:  
Game Two -- Maine: 0 Stony Brook: 5
 
The home runs continued in game number two. Stony Brook used a two run home run in the top of the third to take an early 2-0 lead.
 
Alina Lance singled to right field which scored Riley Craig from second base. 3-0 was the Seawolves' advantage at the end of their fourth at bat. They would add one more in the top of fifth on an infield single.
 
Lance added another RBI in the top of 6th. Her ground out added some more insurance for her squad. Stony Brook had built a late 5-0 lead.
 
The Black Bears were unable to mount a comeback in their final at bats as they fell in their final game of the 2019 season, 5-0.
 
Notes:
  • Keely Clark and Maddie Decker recorded the two Black Bears hits in game two of the day.
  • Lilly Volk (4-6) went the first 4.0 innings, allowed three earned runs, and struck out two. Emily Reid finished the game, allowed two earned, and also struck out two.
