
Softball Splits Conference Doubleheader at UMBC

BALTIMORE -- The University of Maine softball team split a doubleheader with the University of Maryland, Baltimore Country Retrievers on Saturday afternoon. UMBC won game one, 7-0, while Maine grabbed game two, 4-0.
Game One - Maine: 0 UMBC: 7
With two outs in the bottom of the fourth inning, UMBC broke the scoreless tie. Imani Dawson singled to right field and drove home two runners, who had reached earlier in the inning. Julia Keffler followed the two out, two RBI single with one of her own. To cap the fourth inning scoring for the Retrievers, Maddie Daigneau singled home one more UMBC run. The home team led 5-0 after four innings.
Kaly Winslow hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the fifth for the Retrievers. Her two run blast extended her squad's lead to seven. It was the final scoring of the game as the Black Bears were unable to mount a comeback in the final innings. UMBC won game one of the afternoon, 7-0.

Game Two - Maine: 4 UMBC: 0
Brianna Neely recorded Maine's first hit when she singled home Maddie Kimble in the top of the third. Amanda MacBurnie followed the RBI single with an RBI double. Maddie Decker continued the scoring with a single to right field that scored both Grace McGouldrick and MacBurnie.
The four run fourth inning was all the Black Bears would need, as Kyleigh O'Donnell went all seven innings and allowed no runs. The two conference rivals split the afternoon doubleheader as Maine knocked off UMBC 4-0 in game number two.

- Keely Clark walked twice, and Hailey Perry earned one free pass.
