ORONO, Maine – University of Maine head coach
Nick Charlton has announced the hiring of Mikal Myers an assistant coach. Myers will serve as the outside linebackers coach for the Black Bears.
Â
"I am very excited to announce our full coaching staff with the arrival of Coach Myers," Charlton said. "Coach Myers just recently finished an exceptional playing career at UConn and already has coaching experience after a year at AIC. He will bring tremendous energy and expertise, while leading our outside linebackers.""
Â
Myers, who entertained an exceptional playing career at the University of Connecticut from 2013-2016, spent the 2018 season as a graduate assistant coach at American International College (AIC) where he focused on developing the linebacker unit. While at AIC, Myers assisted the head coach in developing the defensive game strategy and worked to design effective and efficient training for both the team and individual student-athletes. Myers also played a large part in the AIC recruiting efforts where he was tasked with surveying areas in New York and Connecticut.
Â
As a student-athlete at UConn, Myers appeared in 45 games with the Huskies. As a defensive tackle, he started all 12 games during his senior season while registering 51 tackles, including 2.5 for loss, and two forced fumbles. In 2015, Myers was a regular on the defensive unit as he recorded 26 tackles and was fifth on the team in tackles for loss. Myers tallied four stops against Marshall in the St. Petersburg Bowl during his junior campaign.
Â
Myers earned his Bachelor of Arts in Communications from UConn in 2016.
