BOSTON, Massachusetts -- The University of Maine men's ice hockey team was defeated by #9 Northeastern, 2-1, in the second game of the Hockey East Quarterfinals.
Â
First Goal (Northeastern 1-0): Maine lost control of the puck behind their net. Patrick Schule picked up the loose puck and fired a pass to Biagio Lerario, who buried the first goal of the Quarterfinal contest. Originally ruled 'no goal' on the ice, after a very lengthy review, the call was overturned. #9 Northeastern led 1-0 after the first 20 minutes.
Â
Second Goal (Northeastern 2-0): On a 5-on-3 advantage in the opening minutes of the second period, Brandon Hawkins wristed a shot from the top of the near face-off circle. The goal came from a Liam Pecararo pass.
Â
Third Goal (Northeastern 2-1):
Jacob Schmidt-Svejstrup scored Maine's first goal on a 5-on-3 advantage with 11:18 to go in the second period.
Sam Becker fed Schmidt-Svejstrup a perfect pass that the freshman was able to one-time past the Northeastern goaltender. Maine trailed by one early in the period.
Â
That was the only tally of the night for the Black Bears. In the final five minutes, Maine had a 5-on-4 and 6-on-5 advantage but were unable to find the game tying goal. With double elimination in effect, the season ends for the University of Maine.

- The Black Bears went 1-7 on the power play, as they only allowed one goal on the Huskies' seven chances.
