Men's Hockey Falls in Overtime to #9 Northeastern

BOSTON, Massachusetts -- The University of Maine Black Bears dropped the first game of the three game Hockey East Quarterfinals series with #9 Northeastern in overtime, 2-1.

First Goal (#9 Northeastern 1-0): Northeastern scored the first goal of the game with 11:31 to go in second period. Tyler Madden found the back of the net after he forced a turnover in the neutral zone. The play was set up after the puck was deflected by one of the referees back to a Maine defenseman. Unprepared for the puck, the Black Bears could not control it,. Madden took advantage of the opportunity and gave his squad a 1-0 lead halfway through the second period.

Second Goal (1-1): Maine tied the game when both teams only had four skaters on the ice. Northeastern misplayed the puck near the blue line. Brady Keeper picked up the loose puck and did the rest. The Cross Lake, Manitoba native skated through the neutral zone and wired a shot over the Huskies' netminder's shoulder. The unassisted goal came with 3:40 left in the second period.

Third Goal (#9 Northeastern 2-1): Austin Goldstein scored the game winning goal in the first overtime. The forward intercepted a Maine pass in the neutral and start a 1-on-0 breakaway. After a lengthy review to see whether or not the Huskies were onside, the game winning goal was upheld. With sudden death in place, Northeastern took game one of the three game series, 2-1.
