Softball Bested in Day One of Wildcat Invitational

ABILENE, Texas -- The University of Maine softball team (1-6) dropped game one to University of Missouri Kansas City, 7-0, and game two to Abilene Christian University, 9-2, on day one of Wildcat Invitational.

Game 1  UMKC: 7 Maine: 1 --

UMKC started the scoring in the bottom of the second inning. Ashlynn Williams reached on an error committed by the Maine infield. She would later score on a Madason Shaw single. With two outs in the inning, Alexis D'Ambrosio reached on another error. Shaw, who singled earlier, came around to score on the second Black Bear error of the inning. Through two innings, UMKC led 2-0.

The Roos extended their lead in the third inning to four after Margan Rollow launched an opposite field two run home run. Bre Hunter tripled home two runs for her squad in the bottom of the fourth. UMKC had a 6-0 lead after four complete.

With a runner on third in the bottom of the fifth, Shaw lined a double. It would be the final run of the day as the Black Bears would drop the first game of the weekend, 7-0.

Notes:
  • Emily Reid (0-2) started the game for Maine. The freshman went 2.0 innings, allowed four runs (two earned), and struck out one. Lilly Volk went the rest of the way for the Black Bears and surrendered three runs (two earned) and struck out one.
  • Laurine German and Kelby Drews had the two Maine hits. Both of the hits went for extra bases.

Game 2 ACU: 9 Maine: 2 --

Abilene Christian struck for a run in each of the first two innings. Calie Burris singled home Katelyn Belch, while Anna Grace Johnson scored on an error committed by the Black Bears.

Lauren Germaine continued her torrid start by doubling home Grace McGouldrick in the top of the third inning. Maine only trailed by one heading into the bottom of third.

Errors plagued Maine once again in the bottom half of third. Kayla Keeling singled home Samantha Bradley before Taylor McCoy scored on the Black Bears' second error of the evening. Four more runs would cross home until Maine was able to pick a runner off of third base. ACU held a commanding 8-1 lead after three.

Rebecca Findley recorded an RBI when she singled up the middle. Unfortunately, it was as close as the Black Bears would get as they dropped game two of the day, 9-2.

Notes:
  • Gabbie Siciliano (0-2) received the nod for game number two of the day. The freshman went 2.0 innings allowing six runs (four earned) and striking out three. Kyleigh O'Donnell was called upon in relief. She only gave up one earned run over the final 4.0 innings as she struck out four.
  • Brianna Neely continuing her hot spring going 2-4 in the leadoff spot for the Black Bears. Laurine German and Rebecca Findley tallied the two RBI on the afternoon.
