First Half Scoring Run Lifts Stony Brook Past Maine

STONY BROOK, N.Y. – Holding a 16-14 advantage in the first half, the University of Maine men's basketball team was outscored 29-7 over the final 8:37 of the first half, sparking Stony Brook to an 81-53 victory at Island Federal Credit Union Arena.
 
Isaiah White led the Black Bears (5-23, 3-10 AE) with 18 points, knocking down 8-of-20 field goal attempts, while grabbing four rebounds. Andrew Fleming sunk 5-of-8 shots from the floor reaching 12 points and tallied five boards. He also contributed two steals and two blocks. He exited the contest with an apparent injury, after he was fouled hard after a slam with 17:49 left in the second half. Vincent Eze added nine points in 16 minutes of action.

Both squads traded points to start the game in a tight defensive battle, as lead changed hands several times in the first 10 minutes to bring the score to 14-14. A Fleming jumper made the score 16-14 in favor of the Black Bears, as Fleming and White combined to score Maine's first 16 points.
 
The Seawolves retook the lead at 17-16 on a 3-pointer, sparking an 18-0 surge which was halted by Maine on and-one jumper from Fleming. Overall, Stony Brook ended the half on a 29-7 sprint to take a 43-23 halftime lead.
 
Twice in the second half, the Black Bears brought its deficit to 19 points at 48-29 and 55-36, but the Seawolves outscored Maine 38-30 in the second half to claim the 81-53 victory.
 
Akwasi Yeboah recorded a game-high 27 points for the Seawolves, as Elijah Olaniyi (16 pts.) and Jaron Cornish (13 pts.) also reached double-figures in scoring.
 
The Black Bears return home for a two game homestand, beginning with a matchup with UMass Lowell on Wednesday night at the Cross Insurance Center.
