ORONO, Maine - The University of Maine men's and women's track and field teams competed against the New Hampshire Wildcats in their opening meet of the season.
On the men's side, New Hampshire ended up leading in total points come Saturday, defeating the Black Bears 99-59.
Andrew Clement gave the men their first win of the day, as he got first place in the 400 meter run with a 53.74. Owen Mild finished just behind him in the same event, running a 54.05. Maine would also take first in the 500 meter run, as
Branden Kuusela ran a 1:10.10 to win the event.
The men won the 4x400Â meter relay, as the team of
Andrew Clement,
Michael O'Clair, Owen Mild and
Branden Kuusela placed first with a 3:35.75 in the event.
William Green would place second in the Pole Vault, completing a 4.10 meter jump.
On the women's side, New Hampshire would complete the weekend sweep of Maine, as they won 93.50-69.50.
Cassidy Hill won the 400 meter run, running a 59.52, the only time under 1-minute in the event on the women's side.
Kaylee Porter placed first in the 800 meter run, running a 2:20.02 in the event.
Katherine Cowan placed first in the 55 meter hurdles, running a 8.58. Cowan would keep her strong performance going with another first place in the high jump, completing a 1.63 meter jump.
Anna Schumann placed first in the triple jump, completing a 11.67 meter jump.
Sarah Vanacore had a strong throw in the weight throw, placing first with a 15.92 meter throw.
Both the men's and women's teams will be competing at Dartmouth College, as they battle against Dartmouth, New Hampshire and Vermont. That meet is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 14 in Hanover, New Hampshire.
