HONOLULU, HI – A road trip of over 5,000 miles, the longest in NCAA Division I, ended in defeat for the University of Maine men's basketball program on Sunday, as the University of Hawai'i dispatched Maine by a 91-51 final score at the Stan Sheriff Center in Honolulu.
This one was all Hawai'i from the jump, as the Rainbow Warriors jumped out to a lightning quick 10-0 lead and never looked back. Maine never led in this one, and never got the Hawai'i lead under seven points, as the Black Bears were handed their most lopsided loss of the 2019-20 season.
MAINE GAME NOTES
- Sergio El Darwich had 11 points to lead the Maine offense, all in the first half and eight in the first eight minutes of gametime. He added in a rebound and a steal.
- Miks Antoms joined El Darwich in the double-digits with ten points alongside three rebounds and three assists.
- Maine was outpaced in almost every statistical category including rebounds (22-38), points in the paint (26-44), blocks (1-5), and free throw attempts (5-26).
- This was the most lopsided defeat for Maine this year, a dubious honor previously held by December 11th 33-point defeat at the hands of Dartmouth.
A LOOK AHEAD
- Maine makes the roughly 5,000-mile journey back home for their next matchup, as they host Columbia on January 2nd at the Cross Insurance Center in the team's final non-conference game before America East play begins.
- That first conference matchup will be on Sunday, a meeting with Stony Brook that will take place in Bangor at the Cross
