LOWELL, Massachusetts -- The University of Maine men's ice hockey skated to a 1-1 tie at #14 UMass Lowell on Friday evening in the Tsongas Center.
The two Hockey East foes battled to a scoreless first period.
Jeremy Swayman finished the opening 20:00 with seven saves.
First Goal (#14 UMass Lowell 1-0): The River Hawks scored the first goal of the night on a 5-on-3 power play. Carl Berglund took advantage of being up two men and gave his squad a 1-0 lead early in the second period.
Second Goal (1-1): Mitchell Fossier tied the game at the end of the third period for the Black Bears.
Tim Doherty had his shot deflected by a River Hawk defender. The puck bounced to Fossier who wrapped the puck into the back of the UMass Lowell net. The game was tied with just over nine minutes left.
The highly contested Hockey East match-up ended in a 1-1 tie, as the two teams played a scoreless 5:00 overtime period.
Notes: Jeremy Swayman finished with 36 saves, while Tyler Wall tallied 30 for UMass Lowell.
Maine went 0-1 on the power play, as the River Hawks were 1-2 on their man advantages.
The Black Bears blocked nine shots as a team.
