WEST HARTFORD, Conn. -- The University of Maine women's soccer team was defeated by the Hartford Hawks, 2-1, on Sunday afternoon.

First Goal (Maine 1-0): The Black Bears struck first only nine minutes into the road conference contest. Senior
Nicole Bailey lofted a ball through the middle of field. At the end of the pass was
Saylor Clark. The striker settled, turned, and fired a shot directly into the back of the Hartford net. Maine led 1-0 off the foot of Clark.

Second Goal (1-1): In the fleeting minutes of the first half, the Hawks tied the match-up. Maine was given a handful of chances to clear the bouncing ball but was unable to do so. Instead, Sierra Stone found teammate Izzy Lachcik in the box. Lachcik headed home the game tying goal.

Third Goal (Hartford 2-1): Skyla Vitiello scored a goal early into the second half for the Hawks. A breakdown in the Maine defense allowed Vitiello to find open space and tally the goal.

The Black Bears were unable to find a game tying goal in the final minutes of the conference game as they dropped their third conference contest of the season.

Shots/Keepers: Maine held a 6-to-4 in shots on goal, while also winning the corner kick battle, 6-3.Â

Kira Kutzinski made two saves in goal, as her Hawk counterpart, Maia Perez, tallied five.
