ORONO, Maine - The University of Maine field hockey team pulled off their fourth win in a row and sixth win in their last seven contests with a thrilling 2-0 victory over UAlbany on Friday afternoon.
The win raises Maine's conference record to 3-1 on the season, clinching a postseason berth for the Black Bears for the 11
th straight season.
As she's done all season, senior
Brianna Ricker got Maine on the board first. After a hard fought scoreless first half, Ricker showed extraordinary stick control with a redirect tip-in goal off a feed from
Nina Keur to make it 1-0 Black Bears midway through the third quarter. The score would hold until about halfway through the next quarter, when
Brooke Sulinski connected with
Brittany Smith amidst a scrum close to the net, as Sulinski snuck it past the Albany goalie for Maine's second goal to ice the game late.
MAINE GAME NOTES
- The win is Maine's third over a ranked opponent in 2019, joining wins over #22 Boston and #5 Northwestern earlier in the season.
- Ricker's goal was her 13th of the season, she's scored in seven of her last eight games. Keur was credited with the assist, her second of the year.
- Junior forward Brooke Sulinski now has four goals on the season, and Smith sits with two assists.
- Mia Borley was perfect in net, making seven saves for her third shutout of the season. She now has eight in her career, already tied with Brittany Fleck '11 and Danielle Burke '00 for the seventh most career shutouts in program history.
