Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey |

Maine Drops Second Weekend Game to BU

ORONO, Maine -- The University of Maine women's ice hockey team was defeated by the Boston University Terriers 3-0 on Sunday afternoon at the Alfond Arena.

In another tight matchup between these conference foes, a defensive battle was won by the weekend's second shutout, this time by BU's Corinne Schroeder.

How It Happened

First Goal (1-0 BU): Sammy Davis scored the first goal of the Hockey East contest. The forward had her original shot saved by Jackson, but the hard shot kicked back out for a rebound. Davis corralled the puck and found the back of the net for her 12th goal of the season. Jesse Compher and Mackenna Parker were each credited with an assist on the goal.

Second Goal (2-0 BU): On the power play, the BU capitalized early as Jesse Compher scored for the Terriers. Kaleigh Donnelly and Abby Cook up set up the Compher goal.

Third Goal (3-0 BU): Natasza Tarnowski cut through the slot after handling a high chip from Kaleigh Donnelly inside the BU blueline. Connor Galway set up the long pass from the half boards in her own zone with a pass around the boards behind her net. Tarnowski's third of the year was the third and final for the Terriers.

Notes:
- Carly Jackson totaled 39 saves for the Black Bears, the fifth time this season she has turned away at least 30 shots.
- The Black Bears went 0-2 on the penalty. The Terriers scored a goal on one of their two power play chances.
- Team defense was strong again for Maine, blocking 15 shots. The game's third star, Alyson Matteau, blocked three for the Black Bears.
- Maine is 12-8-1 overall this season and 5-8-1 in Women's Hockey East play.

Next: The Black Bears return to the ice next weekend taking on Holy Cross in Worcester, Mass on January 12 and 13. Puck drop for both games is 1 p.m.
