WORCESTER, Mass-- The UMaine Women's Ice Hockey team shut out the Holy Cross Crusaders 3-0 on Sunday after tallying three in the third period.

The first forty minutes were scoreless between the two teams after skating to a tie on Saturday. All three of the Black Bears goals came in the third, despite outshooting the Crusaders 25-10 in the first two periods.

First Goal: Brittany Kucera broke the deadlock whipping in a third chance rebound as she crept down from the point to the high slot, as the team was buzzing at the end of a power play. Kucera's goal, with assists from
Celine Tedenby and
Maggie Blair gave the Black bears a 1-0 lead.

Second Goal: Just four minutes after Kucera's goal,
Michelle Weis scored to double the Maine lead. Weis picked up the puck along the boards and darted to center, firing a laser through traffic for her third of the year.
Ebba Strandberg and
Lydia Murray's assisted on the goal, giving Maine a 2-0 lead.

Third Goal: Cailey Hutchison put the game away for Maine on a breakaway. Hutchison stole the puck at center, shimmied through the defense at center before cutting in and scooping the puck in five-hole for her fourth of the year. The assistant captain's goal, assisted by Matteau, gave the Black Bears their 3-0 final.

Carly Jackson earned her second shutout of the season and the second in the month of January. Jackson turned away 15 shots for the victory.
-Maine outshot Holy Cross, peppering 38 shots on goal. The Black Bears are 11-4-2 when outshooting their opponent.
- The Black Bears are now 13-8-2 overall and 6-8-2 in Hockey East play.
