Three Black Bears Land on America East Track and Field All-Academic Team

BOSTON – On Wednesday, the America East Conference announced that Andrew Clement, Brianna DeGone and Lauren Magnuson were selected to the America East Outdoor Track and Field All-Academic Team for their success in the classroom and on the track.

Clement, a marine science major, was one of two student-athletes on the list to post a perfect 4.0 GPA on the men's list. He also earned a spot on the 2017-18 America East Indoor Track and Field All-Academic Team, and is a two-time selection to the America East Commissioner's Honor Roll. On the track, he was a part of the second-place 4x400 relay team (3:29.59) at UNH on April 7. At the America East Championships, he earned 16th in the 400m.

DeGone was UMaine's 2018 Salutatorian at graduation, posting a 3.90 GPA during her four years as a bioengineering major, with a minor in business administration. She is a member of National Society of Collegiate Scholars, Order of the Engineer and the Phi Kappa Phi honor society. At UMass this season, she recorded a PR of 38.20m in the javelin, which ranks seventh all-time in program history. The Turner, Maine native placed sixth at the conference meet, with a top-throw of 37.27m in the event. For more on DeGone's academic and athletic excellence at UMaine, click here.

An elementary education major, Magnuson holds an impressive 3.96 GPA. She earned the Elite 18 Award during the indoor season, the America East's equivalent to the Elite 90 award, which honors the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point average competing at the finals site at each of the conference's 18 team championships. At the America East Outdoor Championships, her PR of 55.06 in the 400m earned 3rd place. The time ranks second all-time in program history. She also helped Maine's 4x400 relay team place third at the conference meet, with a time of 3:49.88.

UMaine is represented at the NCAA East Preliminary this week by Alice Barnsdale, Rachael Bergeron and Adam Lufkin. For competing times and links for the live stream and live results, click here.
