ORONO, Maine -- University of Maine offensive lineman Jamil Demby became the 17th Black Bear all-time to be selected in the National Football League (NFL) Draft when he was chosen in the sixth round, 192nd overall, by the Los Angeles Rams on Saturday afternoon.

Demby is the first Black Bear to be selected in the NFL Draft since Trevor Bates was drafted in the seventh round by the Indianapolis Colts in 2016. Demby's selection is the third for Maine in the last five years. He is also the first Maine offensive lineman to be taken in the NFL Draft since Scott Hough was selected by the New Orleans Saints in 1990.

The 6-foot-5, 319 pound lineman, who started 40 games over his four-year career with the Black Bears, is projected to play guard at the next level.

The Vineland, N.J. native collected several awards following a stellar senior season at Maine. Demby earned All-CAA First Team accolades along with a spot on the All-New England Football Team. He was selected to the Phil Steele Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) All-America First Team along with garnering STATS FCS All-America Second Team honors. Following his impressive campaign, Demby was selected to participate in the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl and the Reese's Senior Bowl.

After his junior season, Demby was named Maine's Offensive Lineman of the Year as well as earning a spot on the All-CAA Third Team.
