ORLANDO, Fla. – In the first outdoor meet of the season,
Alice Barnsdale and
Rachael Bergeron placed in the top-5 in the hammer throw at the UCF Black and Gold Challenge this past weekend.
In her outdoor season debut, Barnsdale's throw of 59.35m in the hammer earned second-place among 37 competitors. The throw marks the third farthest in the event in school history. Bergeron also threw the hammer, taking fourth with a top-throw of 58.59.
Alecsander Wortman took 17
th in the pole vault (4.25m) to open Friday for Maine, while
Scott Murray earned 15
th place (51.47m) among the field of 26 in the hammer throw.
Anna Schumann closed out day one for Mane with a mark of 11.17m in the triple jump for a 15
th place finish.
On Saturday, Bergeron began the day for Maine in the discus, with a throw of 36.81m for a 22
nd place finish among the group of 39. On the men's side,
Adam Lufkin tallied a distance 42.66m in the discus 14
th place, while freshman
Stephen Urli (29.70m) took 33
rd.
Maine' top finish on Saturday came in the shot put, with Lufkin recording a distance of 14.87m for 11
th place, while Murray followed in 15
th (12.69m) in the event.
In the 100m dash,
Benjamin Davis crossed the finish line in 11.14 seconds for 16
th place finish while
Lauren Magnuson placed 29
th in the 200m, registering a time of 24.94.
Freshman Kendra Willard took 31
st in her first outdoor meet in the long jump, registering a distance of 4.09m.
The Black Bears are off from action next weekend, before resuming competition on March 31 when Maine travels to New Hampshire to compete against UNH and Bates.
