HANOVER, N.H. – Three Black Bears recorded double-figures in scoring, but the University of Maine could not overcome a hot-shooting Dartmouth squad, falling 78-52 at Leede Arena on Saturday afternoon.
Isaiah White tied a game-high with 18 points against the Big Green.
Andrew Fleming reached double-figures for the fourth-consecutive contest and for the eighth game in 10 games with 10 points.
Vilgot Larsson drained four of his eight field goal attempts, including 2-of-4 from long distance. Larsson and
Vincent Eze led the Black Bears with five rebounds apiece off the glass.
Both teams traded buckets to begin the contest, but the Big Green took a nine-point advantage following a 10-2 run with 14:46 left in the first half. A Larsson trey and Eze layup brought the deficit down to five at 18-13 and 20-15, but the Big Green recorded back-to-back layups to extend its lead to 24-15 with 8:45 left on the clock in the first half.
With Maine trailing 26-17, another 10-2 sprint by Dartmouth opened the game up to 34-19 in favor of the Mean Green. The Black Bears outscored Dartmouth 8-7 the rest of the first half, as Dartmouth led 41-27 at the break. The Big Green made 16-of-28 field goal attempts, including 5-of-8 triples in the first frame, while holding the Black Bears to shoot below 40 percent (11-28).
After the halftime intermission, the Big Green used a 12-6 charge to take a 20-point lead at 53-33, but the Black Bears immediately responded with a 9-0 run to come within 11 points at 53-42. Larsson tallied a triples on back-to-back possessions during the run, while Fleming and
Celio Araujo knocked down two from the charity-stripe each to get back into the game. The Big Green scored the next six points to take a 59-42 lead with 10:44 left.
With the Big Green holding a 66-51 lead, they capped the game on a 16-4 run to win 78-52.
Brendan Barry (18 pts), Chris Knight (17 pts), James Foye (14 pts) and Ian Sistare (13 pts) all registered double-figures to lead Dartmouth offensively.
