Tanesha Sutton tallied her eight career double-double while
Blanca Millan poured in 25 points but it would not be enough at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga defeated Maine, 66-61, in the Fordham Holiday Classic consolation game on Sunday afternoon.
The loss wraps up Maine's non-conference mark, which featured 13 contests against 10 teams who appeared in postseason play in 2017-18, at 7-5.
For her efforts in the Holiday Classic, Millan was named to the All-Tournament team after averaging 20.5 points, 6.0 rebounds and 2.5 steals during tho two games.
Millan's point total marked the 21st time in her career in which she's notched 20 or more points in a game, and the sixth time this season. Sutton, who pulled down the 500th rebound of her career, ended the day with 17 points and 11 boards.
The Black Bears continued their trend of protecting the ball, turning it over just nine times against the Mocs, marking the fourth time this season in which they've turned it over less than 10 times.
Chattanooga's bench outscored Maine 37-9, led by its two double-digit scoring leaders in Shelbie Davenport (13) and Eboni Williams (11).
The game, which featured seven lead changes and six ties, opened with a 7-0 Chattanooga run over the games first 2:30 minutes.
Maine responded out of a timeout with a 6-0 sprint as a triple by Millan trimmed the lead to one. The Black Bears would cut the lead to one four time in total in the first quarter but were unable to take the lead as Chattanooga carried a 14-12 edge into the second.
The Mocs extended their lead to four early in the second before Maine put together a 5-0 run, giving the Black Bears their first lead of the day.
Doga Alper's triple, her first collegiate bucket, trimmed the lead to one before Sutton's offensive putback gave Maine an 18-17 lead.
Chattanooga responded to take a four point lead but Maine would battle right back.
Dor Saar, who finished the game with six assists, found
Kira Barra for a jumper before Sutton completed the old fashioned three-point play to give Maine a 24-23 advantage with 3:48 left in the half.
Morgan Hill's triple late in the half sent the Mocs into the break with a 29-26 lead. Lakelyn Bouldon opened the second half with a triple of her own as the Mocs would lead, 32-26, early in the third.
With Chattanooga leading by three midway through the third period, the Black Bears responded with an 8-0 run. Jumpers from Alper and Sutton put Maine up by one before back-to-back buckets by Millan gave Maine its largest lead of the game at 44-39.
The Mocs closed the third quarter on a 6-1 run as the game would enter the final quarter knotted at 45-all.

Maeve Carroll's steal led to a bucket from McVicar, giving Maine the 49-45 edge.
Two free throws from Sutton with 4:14 remaining sent Maine up by a pair. However, a 10-0 run by the Mocs gave them their largest lead of the game, 62-54, with 1:57 on the clock.
Maine was able to cut the lead down to three but it would be as close as it would get, falling in the end by a 66-61 final.
