No. 17 Field Hockey Picks Up 10th Win with Convincing 4-0 Victory over Vermont

ORONO, Maine – A single goal from four different Black Bears and a shutout performance from Mia Borley gave the University of Maine field hockey team a 4-0 win over Vermont on Sunday afternoon at Moulton-Winder Field.
 
Hana Davis, Brianna Ricker, Samantha Wagg and Riley Field all scored in the contest for the Black Bears (10-2, 2-1 AE). Davis scored in the first half, while Ricker, Wagg and Field all found the back of the net in the second half. Field, Nina Keur and Casey Crowley each tallied an assist for Maine.
 
Borley recorded her second shutout of her freshman season after stopping all four of Vermont's shots on net. Sierra Espeland registered six saves in the loss for the Catamounts (5-7, 2-1 AE).
 
MAINE GAME NOTES AND HIGHLIGHTS
  • The Black Bears outshot the Catamounts by a mark of 16-5 on the day.
  • Maine earned six penalty corners to Vermont's three.
  • In 12 games, Maine has tallied at least four goals in six of those games.
  • So far this season, Maine has outscored its opponents by a mark of 51-16. The Black Bears scored 52 goals in 18 games total last season. The team is on pace to score 76.5 goals in the regular season.
  • Borley has not allowed a goal in over 145 minutes, last allowing a score in the eighth minute of a 83-minute double overtime victory against UAlbany last Sunday.  
  • Davis, Ricker and Field all tallied their third goals of the season in the win.
  • Maine has registered a 10-win season for the 10th consecutive season under head coach Josette Babineau.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • 25:40 | Keur found Davis open on the inside the left-side  of the circle, who shot to the right side of the net.
  • 43:11 | Ricker took a pass from Ella Mosky on the right-side of the goalkeeper, who shot high above the diving goalkeeper to extend Maine's lead to 2-0.
  • 61:23 | Off a penalty corner, Emily Hindle inserted to Field, who settled for Wagg. Wagg found the low-right corner for her seventh goal of the season.
  • 62:12 | Less than a minute later, Davis passed to Crowley, who weaved around a few defenders before passing to an open Field who fired in a shot into the open net.
UP NEXT
  • Maine returns to the UMaine Field Hockey Complex on Tuesday to battle Dartmouth in the final non-conference contest of the season. The Tuesday afternoon matinee is set for a 1:00 p.m. start.
