ORONO, Maine – In the final non-conference contest of the season, the No. 17 Maine Black Bears shutout the Dartmouth Big Green in a 4-0 victory on Tuesday afternoon at the UMaine Field Hockey Complex.
The Black Bears (11-2, 2-1 AE) complete their non-conference record with a 9-1 record, with their lone blemish coming against now No. 11 Harvard on Sept. 23.
Freshman
Nina Keur opened and closed the scoring for the Black Bears with two goals, while seniors
Casey Crowley and
Emily Hindle tallied goals for Maine in the second half.
Mia Borley stopped the one shot on goal she faced for her second-consecutive shutout and the third of her career. Hailey Valerio recorded an impressive 16 saves for the Big Green (4-6, 1-2 Ivy) in the loss.
MAINE GAME NOTES AND HIGHLIGHTS
- The Black Bears outshot the Big Green by a mark 34-3 on the day, allowing just one shot on goal. Maine's offense also forced 11 penalty corners, to Dartmouth's one.
- Maine led 1-0 at halftime, allowing just one shot from the Big Green.
- Borley and the Black Bear defense have not allowed a goal in 214:58 of game-time, last allowing a score in the 8th minute of an 83-minute double-overtime win over UAlbany.
- Maine posted back-to-back shutouts for the first time since Emma Cochran accomplished the feat with back-to-back 1-0 wins over UAlbany (10/22/17) and Vermont (10/27/17) last season.
- Maine's 214:58 scoreless streak is the longest since Cochran went 243 minutes without allowing a goal, which spanned three games last season.
- Over her past eight games, Keur has registered 14 points on six goals and two assists.
- Riley Field has tallied five points in her last four games.
- Maine now leads the all-time series over Dartmouth by a mark of 17-6, with the Black Bears winning nine-straight since 2009.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- 11:56 | Keur stole possession from just outside the circle on the right-side, before deking right past the incoming goalkeeper and sniped a shot into the open net.
- 35:20 | After Field gave Crowley possession with a pass, the senior beat three oncoming defenders, including the goalkeeper to push the shot into an open net.
- 46:06 | Off a penalty corner, Libby Riedl fired two shots, but both were saved. With the rebound in mid-air, Hindle redirected the ball in the left corner of the cage for the goal.
- 64:45 | Riedl passed a bumpy ball to Field, who one-timed a pass to Keur, as the freshman beat the goalkeeper to low right-side of the cage for her seventh goal of the season.
