No. 15 Maine Set to Host Vermont for Senior Day, Closes Regular Season at UMass Lowell

 ORONO, Maine – The No. 15 University of Maine field hockey team looks to close the regular season on a high note this weekend, hosting Vermont for Senior Day on Friday, before traveling to UMass Lowell on Sunday. Maine honors its six seniors against the Catamounts at the UMaine Field Hockey Complex on Friday at 3:00 p.m., while the Black Bears take on the River Hawks on Sunday at 1:00 p.m in the regular season finale.

About the No. 15 Maine Black Bears (13-3, 4-2 America East)
• The Black Bears moved up one spot in the latest Penn Monto/NFHCA Coaches Poll, despite falling to now No. 17 UAlbany 1-0 in their lone game last week.
• The UMaine athletic department will honor Casey Crowley, Lydia Gavner, Emily Hindle, Ella Mosky, Libby Riedl and Samantha Wagg on Friday against the Catamounts for their contributions on and off the field.  
• Over the last four years, the group of six seniors have led Maine to a 50-21 overall record, a 23-7 America East record and a 24-7 record at the UMaine Field Hockey Complex.
• The senior six have combined for 117 goals and 109 assists for 343 total points over the course of four seasons. In the classroom, the seniors have combined for a 3.20 GPA.
• The group has combined for five America East All-Conference and five NFHCA All-Region selections through three seasons, with the announcement of 2018 awards coming soon.
• The senior class has provided nearly 60 percent of Maine's goals this season, firing in 38 of the Black Bears' 64 goals. 15 of Maine's 34 assists have come from the senior class as well. Of Maine's 160 points, 91 points (56.9%) have come from Crowley, Gavner, Hindle, Mosky, Riedl and Wagg.
• Nationally, the Black Bears rank third in goals per game (3.94) and sixth in points per game (10.00).
  About the Vermont Catamounts (7-9, 3-3 America East)
• Since falling to Maine on Oct. 7, Vermont has split its record with a 2-2 record, defeating UMass Lowell and Colgate, while falling to UAlbany and New Hampshire.
• Vermont sits behind Maine with a 3-3 America East, but still have to play the No. 15 Black Bears and No. 17 UAlbany.
• Landon Warren leads the Catamounts with seven goals and 14 points, while Rachel Phillips ranks second on the team with five goals and 11 points.
• Sierra Espeland has allowed 2.09 goals per game, winning seven of her 16 decisions. She averages 4.5 saves per game.

About the UMass Lowell River Hawks (8-8, 2-5 America East)
• Since the 4-1 loss against the Black Bears on Oct. 12, the River Hawks have fell to Vermont and Dartmouth, but defeated New Hampshire on Oct. 19.
• With games against UMass (Oct. 25) and Maine left on the schedule, the River Hawks seek an America East playoff berth on the final weekend of the regular season.
• Anouk Lalande and Torrie Huk have led the charge offensively, tallying 25 and 24 points for UML.
• In goal, Eva Berkhout has started in every game, allowing 1.68 goals per contest, while making 4.9 saves per game.
 
Up Next: Maine awaits to see who it will play in the upcoming America East Tournament, hosted by Stanford University next week. If the season ended today, Maine would take on the third-seed in the America East West Division, Cal.
