BOSTON/DURHAM, N.H. – The UMaine men's track and field team competed at both the BU John Thomas Terrier Classic and a meet at UNH on Saturday.
The Black Bears took second at UNH, competing against the meet hosts and Vermont, earning 173 points. Maine won eight of the 18 events in Durham.
Aaron Willingham won both of his events on the day, earning first place finishes in the 1 mile run (4:22.16) and the 3000m run (8:46.90).
Jacob Terry followed Willingham in the 3000m run with a runner up finish in a time of 8:48.50.
In the 55m dash, the duo of
Andrew Smith (6.80) and
Seth White (6.91) took first and second respectively to add 16 points towards Maine's team score. White also earned a second place finish in the 200m dash (24.06), and a third place nod in the long jump (5.93m).
Andrew Clement placed first in the 400m run (53.66), while
Ethan Orach crossed the finish line first in the 800m run (1:59.38).
Other top performances include
Colton Santoro finishing as the runner-up in the 55m hurdles.
Maine won three of the six field events on the day.
Camden Cleathero opened the field portion by winning the high jump, with a jump of 1.84m.
Alecsander Wortman won his lone event of the day in the pole vault, recording a mark of 4.40m. The Black Bears also took second and third in the event, with
Devin Burgess (4.25m) and
Garrett Johnson (4.10m) following Wortman.
Scott Murray and
Adam Lufkin recorded throws of 14.30m and 14.24m to sweep the top two spots in the shot put. Lufkin also earned a fourth place distance in the weight throw (13.48m).
At the BU John Thomas Terrier Classic,
Elijah White took fifth in the long jump with a leap of 7.01m. He also competed in the triple jump (14.25m), placing sixth in the field of 28.
In the high jump,
Troy Davis finished ninth, clearing 1.95m.
In the 200m,
Mozai Nelson (22.36) and
Benjamin Davis (22.84) took 32
nd and 60
th respectively in the field of 114.
Jacob Johns earned a 37
th place finish (4:09.42) in the 1 mile run, while
John Hassett finished five runners after with a time of 4:11.56. The 1 mile run featured 165 competitors.
The Black Bears are back in Boston next weekend to compete at the New England Championships. The two day meet will take place at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center starting on Friday.
