Orono, Maine — The University of Maine has announced that it will institute a no re-entry policy at Alfond Arena, beginning in the fall of 2017.
"The University of Maine Police Department and Athletic Department evaluate security requirements and needs annually," says UMaine chief of police, Roland LaCroix. "We have decided to follow best practices as provided by The National Center for Spectator Sports Safety (NCS4) in regards to no re-entry. This policy is not intended to penalize our fans but to ensure a safe environment for everyone to enjoy Black Bear hockey."
The well-being of all Black Bear fans visiting campus is a top priority for the University. No re-entry policies have become a national trend and one the University of Maine is confident will increase the welfare and protection of all who attend events at Alfond Arena.
"Ensuring safe and enjoyable University of Maine events for all who attend and participate is a priority," says Robert Dana, vice president for student life and dean of students. "That's particularly true of our athletics events, which attract fans from across campus and far beyond. Following national best practices makes sense in UMaine's leadership role in Division I athletics in Maine."
