No. 24 Maine Explodes for 12 Goals in Dominant Win over Bryant

Libby Riedl finished with nine points against the Bulldogs

Orono, Maine – Led by junior midfield Libby Riedl's hat-trick and three assists, the No. 24 Maine Black Bears defeated the Bryant Bulldogs 12-1 on Tuesday afternoon at the UMaine Field Hockey Complex. Maine's 12 goals in a single game marks the second-highest total in program history, and the most in a single-game since the Black Bears defeated now defunct Nasson College 14-0 in 1975.

Several other Black Bears recorded multi-point games, as junior Ella Mosky added six points (two goals, two assists), junior Samantha Wagg contributed five (two goals, one assist), senior Madison Cummings posted four (two goals), while sophomore Brianna Ricker attributed three on the day (one goal, one assist), and junior Casey Crowley and sophomore Riley Field each totaled two points on a single goal each.

Maine held advantages in both shots 34-2, penalty corners 7-0 on the day.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • After Maine was awarded a penalty stroke a few minutes later, Samantha Wagg buried a low shot on the left hand side of the net to give Maine a 2-0 advantage.
  • Riedl scored her first of her three goals next, as the Black Bears took control of the contest.
  • With the halftime score at 7-0, Maine added five second-half scores to cap the dominant win against Bryant.
