Brown Edges Soccer in Overtime, 2-1

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Junior Mikayla Morin netted her first career goal in the 77th minute for the University of Maine women's soccer team but Brown scored an equalizer five minutes later and then found the net first in overtime period to steal the game, 2-1, on Friday night at Stevenson-Pincince Field.
 
Sophomore Annalena Kriebisch (0-1-1) played a key role in goal for the Black Bears, registering eight saves, including two in the first two minutes of the second half, to keep Maine in contention the entire contest. Brown held the final 20-5 edge in shots attempted and had an 8-4 edge in corner kicks. Christine Etzel finished with two saves for the Bears.
 
Goal Recaps
• Maine struck first, with Morin netting the team's first goal of the season in the 77th minute. As sophomore Kayla Brace sent in a corner kick, Morin ran towards the top of the box and was able to get her head on the ball, flicking it past Christine Etzel to the far post.
• Brown erased the deficit 5:22 later. After a leaping effort from Kriebisch to pary away an initial shot, Star White capitalized on the ensuing traffic by knocking home a ball near the top of the six.
• The game-winning goal came just over seven minutes into the first overtime period, when Zeinab Kante took advantage of a loose ball in the penalty area and slotted it home past Kriebisch and the Black Bears defense.
 
Notes
• Morin's 77th minute tally was the first of her career.
• This was the first time in the six-game series between Maine and Brown that the winning team did not earn a shutout.
• Maine held Brown without a shot on frame in the first half, marking the first time in nine games (Sept. 21, 2016) that Brown was held without a shot on goal in a full half.
• It was a clean first half of play, with neither team being whistled for a foul until the 41st minute nd each squad finishing the first 45 minutes with one each.

• The Black Bears return to Mahaney Diamond on Sunday at 2 p.m. to host the Northeastern Huskies of the CAA.
• Maine will hit the road on the final day of August, traveling to Holy Cross for a 7 p.m. match on Thursday, Aug. 31.
