ORONO, Maine – The University of Maine women's soccer team dropped a 3-0 decision against defending Colonial Athletic Association champion Northeastern on Sunday afternoon at Mahaney Diamond.
Â
The Huskies (3-1-0) took a lead in the 27th minute and never looked back, adding a second goal in the 30th minute and then keeping the Black Bears (0-2-1) comeback at bay with an insurance goal in the 67th.
Â
Sophomore
Annalena Kriebisch (0-2-1) made six saves between the pipes for Maine and kept the Black Bears within striking distance with a diving, outstretched save to her left early in the second half. Maine's best scoring chance of the first half came when junior
Genaya Loftis drove down the left wing and fired a shot across the mouth of the goal, only to have Nathalie Nieditch (3-1-0) make the diving save. Nieditch made the requisite save once again in the second half, stopping sophomore
Nicole Bailey's dead ball attempt from 25 yards out. The Northeatern keeper finished with three saves.
Â
Northeastern held the final edge in shots (17-5), shots on goal (9-3) and corner kicks (6-1).

Goal Recaps
• The Huskies got on the board first in the 27th minute when Lizzie George took advantage of a turnover in the midfield and threaded a ball up the center to Carly Wilhelm who then sent it past Kriebisch for the lead.
• Northeastern got some luck three minutes later when a shot taken by Wilhelm in the box deflected off of a defender and over some heads into the open Maine net for the 2-0 edge.
• The ball took another bad bounce on the Northeastern's third goal, as Kayla Cappuzzo's centering pass deflected off of a defender and past Kriebisch.
