ORONO, Maine - The Black Bears finished up their mid-week series as they took down the UMaine-Farmington Beavers 12-2 on Wednesday afternoon as eight different Black Bears took the mound over the course of the game.
The Black Bears got on the board early in the bottom of the first as
Christopher Bec hit an RBI single to left field to advance
Jeremy Pena to third base, but a throwing error would advance the runners, putting Bec on second and giving Maine a 1-0 lead with Pena scoring. Bec would then score on an RBI single to center field by
Jonathan Bennett, giving Maine a 2-0 lead.
Maine would score three more in the third, two on a right-field two-run home run by
Jonathan Bennett, and
Brandon Vicens scoring on a throwing error to give Maine a 5-0 lead.
Maine scored six in the bottom of the fifth, as another throwing error would score
Hernen Sardinas, an RBI single would score
Caleb Kerbs, and with the bases loaded,
Tyler Schwanz would clear them with a two-RBI triple, giving Maine an 11-0 lead after six full innings.
Farmington would get two runs back in the top of the eighth, but Maine would answer right back in the bottom of the eighth with a solo shot from
Caleb Kerbs over the left field wall, extending Maine's lead to 12-2, which would end up being the final score.
Eight Maine pitchers saw action in the contest,
Justin Courtney got the start and the win, his record now 4-3, followed by
John Arel,
Cody Laweryson,
Chris Murphy,
Eddie Emerson,
Connor Johnson,
Nick Silva, and
Jeff Gelinas.
The Black Bears will resume conference play this weekend at Binghamton for a three game series starting with a double header on Saturday at 12pm.
