ORONO, Maine - After splitting the day one double header with the Jaspers, the Black Bears scored 28 total runs to defeat Manhattan College on Saturday 18-13 in game one and 10-6 in game two.

Game one saw a total of 31 runs as both teams had hot bats coming into the second double header. Maine opened up with a five-run bottom of the first, and continued to add runs as game went on, scoring two more in the third and seven runs in the bottom of the fourth to lead 14-3 after a three-run top of the fourth for the Jaspers. Despite a five run top of the sixth and five run top of the ninth, the Black Bears would claim victory in game one 18-13.
Cody Laweryson got his first start of the season which gave him his third win of the season, he's now 3-1 after going 5.0 innings, allowing five hits and three runs, along with one walk and striking out three.
Eddie Emerson came in to stop the five-run top of the ninth facing three batters and only allowing one hit.

Neither team was done scoring after the very run-heavy game one, as Maine and Manhattan both scored in the first inning. Manhattan lead off with a two-run top of the first as
Jeremy Pena and
Tyler Schwanz would both hit solo home runs in the bottom of the first to tie it back up 2-2.
Tied 3-3 after two innings, Maine would break the tie and take the lead in the bottom of the third with two runs, and adding three runs in the bottom of the fourth to lead 8-3.
With Manhattan knocking on the door with a three run top of the fifth, Maine would answer back as
Caleb Kerbs hit his first home run of the season, Maine's third of the game, along with a
Jeremy Pena RBI single to give Maine a 10-6 final score, as
Nick Silva came in to close, retiring all six batters he faced in the sixth and seventh, including striking out all three batters in the top of the seventh.
John Arel gets his first decision of the season, a victory bringing his record to 1-0, going 5.0 innings, allowing eight hits, six runs and two walks while striking out two.

Maine is back in non-conference action Tuesday and Wednesday at 4pm as they'll face Thomas College on Tuesday and UMaine-Farmington on Wednesday.
