Men's Basketball's Season Ended by Vermont

The Catamounts continue the best winning streak in the nation with 86-41 victory over the Black Bears

BURLINGTON, Vermont - The Black Bears traveled to Patrick Gymnasium for a Wednesday night matchup with the Vermont Catamounts in the first round of the America East Tournament, a game that was controlled by Vermont's post play, as they outscored the Black Bears 60-16 in points in the paint, taking the game by a score of 86-41.

Andrew Fleming led all Maine scorers with 16 points and four rebounds, also tallying an assist on the evening; he went 3-6 from the free throw line. Ryan Bernstein led the team in rebounds with seven, he finishes with four points and an assist. Austin Howard had nine points, three rebounds, and two assists. Vincent Eze finished with seven points and five rebounds.

The Black Bears had trouble shooting the ball, as they only made 16 baskets on 50 attempts for a 32% shooting percentage, to Vermont's 59%.

Vermont started out on a quick 9-2 run, but would soon extend their lead to double digits for the rest of the game when they led by 11 points with 11:30 to go, 15-4. The Black Bears would have a hard time catching up, as Vermont led by 29 points at halftime 45-16.

The Catamounts kept piling it on in the second half, leading by 30 with 18:08 left and by 41 with 9:02 left. The game ended with a 45 point lead for the Catamounts, 86-41.

The Black Bears finish the season with a 7-15 record, and a 3-13 conference regular season record.
