LOWELL, Massachusetts - As the final month of conference play continues, the Black Bears began a three-game road trip with a game at UMass Lowell, a game in which the River Hawks would run out ahead and take an early lead that Maine wouldn't be able to catch up with, eventually taking the game by a final score of 100-68.
Wes Myers led all Maine scorers with 11 points, as well as three rebounds, two assists, and a steal.
Austin Howard finished with 10 points, one rebound and an assist.
Jaquan McKennon scored nine points, grabbed four rebounds, dished five assists, and had one steal.
Andrew Fleming led the team in rebounds with nine, he also had five points and a steal.
The game started off as a defensive battle with neither team scoring a basket until 17:09 remaining in the first, when UML took a 2-0 lead. Maine hit two three's to cut UML leads,
Austin Howard with the first to make it 4-3 with 15:38 remaining, and
Jaquan McKennon to make it 7-6 with 14:45 remaining. UMass would then go on a run to lead by 10, 16-6 with 12:36 remaining in the first half. The Black Bears would only be able to cut the lead to seven points before UML would extend it back to double digits. They ended the first half with a 13 point lead, 41-28.
UMass Lowell led the entire second half by double-digit margins, ensuring Maine wouldn't be able to make a comeback. The River Hawks held the edge in field-goal percentage, 64.3% to 39.4%, outscoring Maine overall by a 59-40 margin in the second. The game would end with UML's lead sitting at 100-68.
The Black Bears will be back in action on Sunday as they travel to Stony Brook to face the Seawolves at 2pm.
