BANGOR, Maine -- Tanesha Sutton and Sigi Koizar combined for 35 points as the University of Maine women's basketball team defeated Binghamton by a score of 62-49 on Senior Day at the Cross Insurance Center.

The victory locked up the No. 4 seed for the Black Bears in the America East tournament. Maine will take on No. 5 Binghamton at 2:30 PM on Saturday March 4 in the America East quarterfinals at the Cross Insurance Arena in Portland, Maine. Tickets to the postseason may be purchased here.

Sutton led all scorers with a career-high 18 points to go along with six rebounds, four assists and two steals. Koizar, who tallied double-digits for the fifth-straight game, finished with 17 and a team-high seven boards.

Maine, which outscored Binghamton 30-16 in the paint, controlled the glass as it pulled down 45 rebounds and limited the Bearcats to 32. Maine also forced 18 turnovers as it held its 11th opponent to under 50 points.

The Black Bears were solid from the free throw line (15-for-20); their highest number of free throws made in a single game all year. Binghamton hit just 16 field goals and finished 32.7 percent from the floor.

Neither team could find its way in the first quarter. The Bearcats went 1-for-10 over the opening 10-minutes while Maine finished the quarter 4-for-16 and carried and 8-5 lead into the second.

Binghamton grabbed its only lead of the game on Kai Moon's 3-pointer just 43-seconds into the second quarter. Following the make, Maine, which outscored Binghamton 23-12 in the period, rattled off 12 unanswered points to build a 20-10 lead. Four-straight points from Sutton began the sprint before Koizar drove in and scored the layup, and-1. A triple from Blanca Millan put Maine up eight before two more free throws from Sutton lifted the Maine lead to double-digits.

The Bearcats cut the lead back down to six before Julie Brosseau's and-1 helped Maine close the half on 9-3 run. Koizar's free throws with 0.2 on the clock sent Maine into the break with a 31-17 lead.

Sutton's 3-pointer began action in the third and gave Maine its largest lead (16), just 1:15 into the second half.

Binghamton kept chipping away, cutting the lead back down to single digits when Alyssa James' layup trimmed the Maine advantage to nine with 2:49 left in the third.

Maine quickly rebuilt its advantage to 12 before Binghamton ended the half with a brief 5-2 run, climbing back within nine entering the final quarter.

Imani Watkins' jumper to start the fourth came as part of a 9-2 Binghamton run as Rebecca Carmody's triple cut the lead to four.

Koizar immediately answered the triple with one of her own, snapping the streak and putting Maine back on top by seven. A key offensive rebound put back from Kirsten Johnson and a triple from Millan comfortably put Maine back up by 12 with 4:51 remaining in regulation.

The lead would twice sink to nine but Binghamton could not get any closer. Maine closed the contest with a 6-2 run to end its regular season with a 62-49 victory. The win moved Maine to 10-2 at home this season.
