DEL RAY, Florida - The Black Bears played an early Sunday morning game against the SDSU Jackrabbits in the first of a double header for Maine in the Del Ray Invitational. Maine took down SDSU for the second game in a row, winning their third straight game and improving to 3-3 on the season, with a 6-0 final score.
Nick Silva, defending America East Pitcher of the Week, started on the hill for Maine and pitched 6.0 shutout innings, allowing five hits, one walk and seven K's.
Maine got into the scoring column early, as the first batter of the game for the Black Bears,
Tyler Schwanz, started the game off with a solo shot over the high left field wall, giving Maine a 1-0 lead after one inning.
Maine stuck again with a three-run bottom of the third;
Danny Casals singled to center field, scoring
Tyler Schwanz, who reached base on a walk and reached third on a botched pick-off attempt. Casals would then steal second base, and then on another pitch stole third base, and then scored a run on a
Christopher Bec RBI double. The third run in the inning would be scored by Bec, as
Brandon Vicens doubled to left field to knock in the run. Maine led 4-0 after three innings.
Maine scored their final two runs in the bottom of the fifth, as Bec singled to center field, and then advanced to third on another botched pick-off attempt. He would then be scored by
Brandon Vicens singled to left field. Prior to Vicens' at-bat,
Jonathan Bennett was hit by a pitch, and advanced to second base on the single. Bennett and Vicens would advance one base on a passed ball. Bennett would score from third as
Caleb Kerbs singled to right field, but Vicens would also round third and try to score and be tagged out at the plate, ending the inning.
Eddie Emerson entered the game for Maine in the seventh inning, faced nine batters in his 2.0 innings, allowing only one hit, one walk, and striking out two.
Zach Winn would come in to close for Maine in the top of the ninth, facing three batters, allowing one hit, but a double-play and a fly-out would end the game with Maine on top.

Nick Silva's first decision of the year, he gets the win and is now 1-0 on the season.
Maine plays CCSU again this afternoon to finish out the first weekend of the Del Ray Invitiational; Maine defeated the Blue Devils on Friday by a score of 6-3.
